Project Title: notechnology for Controlling Light
Project Description:

In this project we are developing fundamental understanding of new light-controlling devices called “spatially-variant photonic crystals (SVPCs)” SVPCs can be used to direct information encoded on light sigls between microchips for next-generation high-speed computing. We are studying the fundamental science of SVPCs as well as building functiol devices and testing their performance.

Student Responsibilities: Entry level students are eligible. This project is *highly* interdiscipliry and involves optics, physics, chemistry, engineering, materials science, and computer science. Students from any of these or related disciplines are encouraged to apply.
Student Requirements: The undergraduate researcher will work alongside a graduate student formulating materials for SVPCs, fabricating them by 3D laser-noprinting, and characterizing their optical performance using lasers and optical fibers. The data obtained will be compared to simulations produced by a collaborators.
